“I approached Eoin Murphy for personal training because…
The reason I went to Eoin was that I needed to step my sporting profession up a gear, or a few. When I found out Eoin was an athlete in his day, it was more appealing to me, and instantly I knew he was well up with the demands and needs of an athlete. I needed someone who would be in the same mind frame as me and someone who wouldn’t be afraid of thinking outside the box
Eoin helped me achieve my goal by…
Well considering I was 18 with a bulging disc in my back and the disc below it was extruded, for me to compete at the top I needed to be careful with training and life in general as one wrong move and my running days could have been ended. My main goal was to let the back heal but also to get on the national junior relay team for the European juniors this summer 2015. Eoin put in massive effort in communicating with my physio and track coaches in order to get the right programme in place, after all one size does not fit all and with a diagnosis like mine, no chances could be taken. Months of training, exercises specific to keeping load off my back, through mood swings, highs and low, Eoin help keep my mind on the right track along with getting me prepared for the track. Being in the gym as part of a group and seeing your colleagues doing movements and exercises I should have been doing was just horrible, it felt like I was making no progress compared to them but Eoin helped me keep the faith and keep pushing to be 100% fluent in the movements I was doing. 6 months on and here I am, on the national relay squad, 3rd fastest junior 60m sprinter in Ireland along with PBs that most people can’t believe I got on account of the back the way it was and the season still hasn’t got going. From all Eoin’s positive work in the gym and commitment I still wouldn’t be there, Eoin is not just your typical coach you’d find every day, he is as dedicated as the Athlete also being young in himself, it’s an advantage as there is a training bond you wouldn’t get most places and others he coaches would agree with me on that. It feels to me like I could see him on the start line of a 200m in the next race as he just creates an environment of competition and motivation in the gym and those traits are hard found. They even stick with me when I am on that start line and ready to explode off the blocks.
The results I saw were…
From the time I started in about mid-October to December the results just in strength and power was ridiculous, and I hadn’t really touched a weight, just re-habbing my way back to full speed, I found that even after just strengthening some muscles in my body that my back was less painful, this made me see further down the tunnel and gave me a drive for more, then coming into the indoor season I knew I was feeling good which was strange because I hadn’t felt good in a long while, from just tuning my body to utilise what it could do without any load it blew my mind every time when I crossed the line. Faster and faster, and faster, the times just kept coming down and with every race I felt as if I was getting stronger and I longed for that next session doing those good old pistol squats, I wouldn’t be surprised if Eoin had a bible on pistol squats. But even now, I have a hamstring injury and a few simple tips from Eoin and I am a week ahead of schedule, all because of the advantage that he was an athlete in his day and he encountered these problems himself. But if things keep going and getting better the results I hope to be seeing will be absolutely incredible and all it takes is dedication and hard work and that is seen from Eoin and myself.
One thing I enjoyed training with Eoin was…
One thing I enjoy the most about training with Eoin is the way every session, every day, every conversation is unique in every way. Yes there is structure but it isn’t doing the same movements for weeks on end, there is variety and just 100% enjoyment in every session. Never have I gotten bored in one of Eoin’s sessions to date and I can’t see it happening in the future either.
I found the experience…
So far the experience with Eoin has been an education to me and it has been enjoyable even through the times of injury. Every session I am learning more and more about my abilities and the same can be said for the coach. This is an experience I hope to still have in the coming years of my sporting career. But for the rest of this year I just can’t wait to see what good has to come from the next few crucial months.
I would recommend Eoin to people who…
I would recommend people to Eoin who want to get the most out of themselves as an athlete, who strive on the taste of success, people who are addicted to performing at the highest of levels and at the end of it all, all those looking for an enjoyable training experience, Eoin is your man!”
